Lexica English™
Placement and Vocabulary Test
Placement in English programs has never been faster. Lexica provides valid, reliable data to help place incoming students quickly. Delivered on computer, tablet, or mobile device, instantly scored and fun to use, Lexica makes placement decisions easy.
Lexica is based on an innovative and well-researched model for quickly estimating general language proficiency. It is designed to inform initial placement decisions for students learning English as a foreign language. In addition to its standard English interface, Lexica is available with a bilingual interface in Spanish, Chinese, Korean and Arabic. In the bilingual interface versions, instructions are in the native language. Only the vocabulary words are in English, making the test easily accessible to beginning level English learners.
Because it is adaptive, Lexica can also be used as an ongoing measurement of vocabulary growth throughout the academic year. Lexica is an easy, cost-effective and efficient way to establish an initial baseline and then track a learner’s progress in vocabulary learning over time through multiple test administrations.

Easy to Use
Whether taken on a computer, tablet, or mobile device, the test takes just 10 minutes with results available immediately upon completion. Placement recommendations are based upon standards of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), the international standard for measuring language proficiency.
Research-Based
Lexica uses a Yes/No vocabulary test format with a computer-adaptive design that samples a vocabulary range covering the 10,000 most frequently occurring words in English. This format for measuring language learners’ receptive vocabulary knowledge has been shown to correlate well with general communicative proficiency across the four skills of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.
